I Am the Story and the Storyteller

My name is Kangsen “Yassay” Masango, and I write at the intersection of two worlds—the Cameroon that raised me, and the America of my birth and adult existence. Africa is at the heart of my words, but the world is my inspiration.

My work interrogates the collective and individual joys and sorrows of African lives on the continent and in the diaspora. To do so, I consider the personal, ethnic, and national memories, as well as their trans historical effect, a multidimensional rumination that attempts to unfold history and overlay it with the dynamic ‘now.’ Through my writing, I seek to reclaim voices, give language to the silenced, and to remind us that history is not a relic; it is a living, breathing witness.

I’m not just telling stories; I’m building bridges across generations, between the diaspora and the continent, between the personal and the political.
